Supporting local families and businesses to thrive.

Scott and Jenna have strong roots in Nelson. Both born and bred in the region, they have always appreciated the lifestyle and close-knit community that makes the area special.

Together for more than 22 years, the couple have built not only a life together but also multiple homes and two successful businesses. They’re currently halfway through building their third home, a project designed to support their growing family and the lifestyle they love.

Scott left school to begin his electrical apprenticeship and later started his own company, Siggie Electrical, in 2012. The business now works on residential and commercial projects throughout the region.

Jenna followed a different path, completing an Early Childhood Diploma after working in retail. In 2018, she realised a long-held dream when she opened The Tree House Early Learning Centre.

“I’ve been teaching in early childhood for 20 years now and not one day is the same”, Jenna says. “I love the connection with families and always enjoy a good laugh. Managing a team of 12 staff has its challenges, but it’s incredibly rewarding.”

Both businesses, along with their personal banking are supported by NBS.

Scott’s connection with NBS began in his teenage years, following a family tradition of banking locally. Jenna joined around 15 years ago, and together they’ve continued the relationship as their lives and businesses have grown.

We were looking for a bank that was local and genuinely connected to the community here in Nelson. The personal service has always stood out to us.

For Motueka Branch Manager Ammie McHardy, relationships like this are what community banking is all about.

“Scott and Jenna are a great example of a local family building something meaningful across both business and home”, she says. “Being able to support them through different stages, from business growth to home builds, is exactly why we do what we do.”

Over the years, NBS has supported the couple with everyday banking, business accounts and lending for their home builds.

It’s been great having one place that understands both our personal and business goals.

Their current build is a project the family has spent considerable time planning.

“We spent over a year getting the plans right”, Jenna explains. “It’s designed to suit our lifestyle and make the most of where we live.”

The home will include features tailored to family life, including a separate wing for their children, a large shed, a granny flat, rainwater collection, hydronic heating and, hopefully, a swimming pool.

When asked to describe their relationship with NBS in one word, their answer is simple: “Easy.”

You can call or walk in and have a conversation with someone who actually knows who you are and understands your situation. You never feel like just another number.

For Jenna and Scott, the local connection is what sets NBS apart.

“You’re dealing with people who genuinely care about helping you succeed”, Jenna says.

They also appreciate the banking provider’s strong presence in the community, particularly its support of local sport and events.

“As a sporty family, seeing our local bank supporting the sports we love gives us real trust in how they give back to the community.”

For Ammie, that community connection is a key part of the relationship.

“Because we’re local, we understand the people and the region”, she says. “It means we can offer support that’s personal and relevant, and we can grow alongside our customers as their needs evolve.”

For Scott and Jenna, the idea of “banking for life” is about partnership.

It means having a bank that grows with you through different stages of life. Whether that’s building a home, running a business, or planning new projects.

And after many years banking locally, they say the biggest benefit has been the people behind the service.

“It’s reassuring to have a local banking services provider that’s approachable, supportive and genuinely interested in helping people and businesses in the community succeed”, Jenna says. “They’re always just an email or phone call away.
