No, a term investment is locked in for the agreed term. If the amount you want to add is more than $5,000, you can start a new term investment.
Interest on the principal amount that you’ve invested with us will accrue daily, from the start date of your investment. It will then be paid out according to the rate and frequency you’ve chosen at the time of setting up your term investment.
Current interest rates (which vary according to the term of the investment) are available on our website, obtained at any NBS branch, by calling 0800 101 700 or on the Companies Office Disclose Register. Interest rates are subject to change from time to time. NBS cannot change the interest rate on a term investment once it has been set up.
Interest can be paid monthly, quarterly, 6 monthly or on maturity. You will be paid interest into your nominated NBS account.
Interest rates are subject to change anytime without notice. However, once you have set up your term investment, the rate is fixed for the term that you have selected.
- Reinvest the term investment with us (either in the same term or a different term)
or - Request the term investment be transferred to a nominated bank account
Yes, you can update your maturity instructions up to the day before your term investment matures. The easiest way to do this is through sending NBS a secure message on internet banking, via our mobile banking app. Alternatively, you can get in touch with your personal banker or your local branch.
If you have not elected to set any maturity instructions, your term investment will automatically be reinvested for the same term at the applicable interest rate on the day of maturity.
There are no fees associated with setting up a term investment. However, an early withdrawal fee may be charged if we decide to accept a request for early withdrawal. Fees may also apply to certain transactions, services or other activities (for example, dishonoured transactions, overdrawn accounts and international money transfers).
NBS' term investments are covered as part of the Depositor Compensation Scheme (DCS). The DCS covers up to $100,000 of your money in the unlikely event of a failure. Learn about the DCS here.

Interest rates are current as of 13 July 2026 and subject to change at any time without notice. NBS is the issuer of the term investments. NBS General Terms and Conditions apply. NBS' current Product Disclosure Statement is available free of charge at any NBS branch. Please be aware that the rate of return offered by NBS is based on a specific term selected when an investment is made. NBS expects that the funds will be deposited for the nominated term. NBS does not offer compounding interest. NBS is not obliged to accept a request for early withdrawal (in part or full) of a term investment. If we do decide to accept such a request, we may charge an early withdrawal fee. The early withdrawal fee is calculated as the amount withdrawn multiplied by 2% and prorated for the number of days invested. The early withdrawal fee will be deducted from the after-tax net interest earned. NBS is not a registered bank. |
