How and when your online payments are made

We're making a few updates to how we process payments to make everyday banking smoother and more predictable.

Processing payments 7 days a week.

What's changing

From 19 May 2026, we’re updating how payments are handled during the banking day.

  • The banking day will run later and payments will be processed up until 11:00pm each day

  • Payments will move in and out of your account more often during the day

  • Direct debits may be declined if there isn’t enough money in your account, instead of your account being overdrawn

Online payments continue to be processed seven days a week, including public holidays.

What this means for you

  • Payments you make before 11:00pm will be sent that day
  • Payments you make after 11:00pm will be sent in the morning of the next day
  • More time to approve payments on accounts that need two people to authorise
  • More payment processing during the day can help with cash flow
  • If there are insufficient funds in your account to process an upcoming direct debit, we'll attempt to send you a message to your mobile phone so you can add funds if needed

A few simple things to check
