NBS community banking client
The school has used NBS as our banking provider for about three years now, ever since I decided to switch banks after feeling the service we were getting from our previous bank was lacking. I had heard positive things about NBS from other principals, which was reassuring, and once I met the Ashburton branch manager David and learnt more about the NBS offering, I was happy to move everything over.
I’ve been the principal of Ashburton Netherby School for ten years, leading a staff of 24 people and a very ethnically diverse roll of up to 180 students.

The school has four accounts with NBS — a cheque account, an asset replacement account, a maintenance account and a savings account for investments. The services are great too – the online banking offering always feels safe and easy to use.
NBS does their bit to help keep our children’s puku full by sponsoring our breakfast club. With the help we get from NBS, the breakfast club is able to provide our children with variety and choice when it comes to things like different spreads for their toast – they help elevate the breakfast we can offer. We've also used the surplus for other things like uniforms, paying for school camp attendance, required stationery and other ongoing costs or instances of hardship.
NBS also picks up the bill for our school Eftpos machine which is an absolute godsend as it makes people’s lives easier now that people rarely carry cash.
I find NBS to be very accessible. When I need a hand with something or need a solution quickly, David is just a phone call or even a text away. It’s that personal connection that makes the customer service so good. It’s easy to get things done and the consistency of speaking with the same person every time is just something you do not get with other providers.
I see dealing with NBS as banking in a more local sense. It’s completely New Zealand owned, and I love that being an NBS client means that we are helping our local Ashburton people – we are giving back through that grass roots support to people we know and care about.
Changing banks, especially for a school, can have a lot of red tape and can be a stressful and frustrating experience. To me, banking for life means feeling like you don’t need to change, the trust is there with your provider and they give you no good reason to move. Netherby School will be using NBS for our banking services as long as I am principal. As far as I’m concerned, I hope our partnership with NBS endures and continues to flourish into the future.
