After 12 years working at Nelson’s Buxton Advisory and Accounting, I took over the business this past year when my boss retired. At this time, I inherited the relationship with NBS.

I didn’t even consider going anywhere else for banking services and that was pretty much due to the close ties my clients have with NBS and the close relationship our business had built with NBS over the years. 

As an accounting firm dealing with several small to medium-sized local businesses, I found that many of our clients are with NBS and their preference was to do things locally, face-to-face. NBS facilitates this way of working perfectly.     

I remember when I was first starting out, you used to be able to get in touch quite easily with the big, national banks and ask for help and information directly. Those days are gone. This is why my clients and I value NBS so much, you can have direct communication with them, which makes life so much easier.  

When it came time for me to take over the business, NBS was so easy to deal with and they got everything set up for me so fast. The personal approach they take is so refreshing.  

I find NBS to be realistic and flexible. NBS takes a practical approach and gets things done in a really friendly manner. They really understand people’s needs. Some of my clients are not the type of people who can easily jump online and use financial services that way. They require more of a personal, face-to-face dialogue with the staff and I find I can jump on the phone to anyone at NBS and we can sort things out promptly that way – it's that level of flexibility and understanding that sets them apart. At the branch, the team is always really nice and friendly, and whenever I need something, they're always really prompt at getting back to me. 

NBS hold themselves to be locally minded so I think it is important that they are giving back and you definitely see them doing it in all areas.  

 

To me, banking for life means a lifelong relationship and you see it a lot with our clients.

They are there from the start to the end. The mum and dad that have been with NBS for years and now the kids are buying houses and they come through and they tend to go to them as well. It’s that generational thing. That local feeling is ingrained in everything they do.
