Renewed 12 year partnership to grow and inspire rugby in tasman

NBS and the Tasman Rugby Union (TRU) are proud to announce the renewal of their long‑standing partnership for another two years, marking 12 years of working together to lead and deliver rugby across the Tasman region.

Since the partnership began, NBS and TRU have helped nurture and serve more than 5,000 players, coaches, administrators, volunteers and fans. Together they support 33 clubs and schools and play an important role in strengthening and connecting the rugby community across Tasman.

At the heart of this renewed partnership is a shared commitment to unite and inspire people. Both organisations are focused on growing a life‑long love of the game and helping individuals achieve greatness off the field as well as on it.

Gina Dellabarca, CEO, NBS, says the renewal reflects a shared belief in the power of community.

“This partnership is a celebration of everything that happens when communities come together. As a mutual, we exist for our clients and the support they give us makes partnerships like this possible. Their support allows us to reinvest back into local initiatives that truly matter and TRU is a shining example of that. Rugby creates connection, belonging and opportunity and we’re proud to stand alongside the TRU as they continue to grow the game and support people across the region.”

Julie Bensemann, Interim CEO of Tasman Rugby Union, says NBS’ support helps TRU strengthen rugby from the ground up.

“NBS’ commitment to our region goes far beyond financial support. They genuinely care about people and the role rugby plays in bringing communities together. This partnership helps us nurture players, coaches, administrators and volunteers at every stage of their journey whether they’re starting out at club level or progressing through to Mako, Super Rugby or international opportunities. We’re proud to continue this partnership and excited about what we can achieve together.”

Supporting the community

Thanks to the people who choose to bank with NBS, whether that be through home or business lending, day to day accounts or term investments, we can support more than 300 not‑for‑profit groups every year across Te Tauihu and beyond.

This includes essential community organisations such as the Nelson‑Tasman Hospice, the Fifeshire Foundation, the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary and Multicultural Nelson Tasman. Initiatives that help break down barriers to participation, such as SwimMagic lessons for local tamariki where affordability is a challenge are also a focus.

Over the last ten years, we've distributed more than $8 million in community funding, directly contributing to stronger, more connected and more resilient regions.

Supporting the Tasman Rugby Union is a natural extension of that purpose because TRU plays a crucial role in bringing people together, growing confidence and building pathways that last a lifetime.
