NBS and the Nelson Giants have announced a 3-year principal partnership deal that will see the financial services provider, headquartered in Nelson, become the new naming rights sponsor of the Giants. The deal, which was announced on Thursday (17 November 2022), comes into immediate effect, and runs until August 2025.
The Nelson Giants have a proud history of competing in the NZ National Basketball League, playing their home games at the Trafalgar Centre. Coming second in the 2022 season, the Giants were the only team in the league to have a sell out for all home games.
Howie Timms, General Manager, Commercial at NBS says that NBS is absolutely committed to this long-term deal with the Nelson Giants for many reasons.
Howie says:
It starts with the positive culture being built by General Manager and Head Coach Mike Fitchett, along with a dedicated back office, quality coaching and committed support staff. This is backed up by an attitude from players that being successful is not only about what happens on the court, but just as importantly, it’s about the positive impact the team has on the wider basketball community.
“Having a team from our region playing in the National League is crucial for local basketball and provides a clear pathway for younger players. At a grass roots level, we have been right behind the Giants ‘Basketball in Schools’ programme, where players coach tamariki with the aim of getting them engaged in basketball by having fun and being active.”
Speaking about the new deal, Mike Fitchett, General Manager of the Nelson Giants says that it is fantastic having NBS’ support as naming rights sponsor for a 3-year period.
“NBS is part of a team of sponsors who are part of our community and enable the goals of the Giants organisation, both on and off court, to be achieved. We’re a team and we encourage all current sponsors to get behind us again for the 2023 season and are hopeful that other business will see the benefits of getting involved too.” says Mike
