A new NBS Debit Mastercard is coming your way.

We're all about providing great service to our clients.
To make sure we keep on top of the latest developments in technology, we are moving to a new card provider. This will allow us to bring you improved functionality in the future.

All existing cardholders, along with any new clients, will receive a brand new NBS Debit Mastercard by mid 2024.

 

This move brings three changes to the way you set up, activate, and use your new card:

1. Set up your PIN via Internet Banking or the NBS Mobile Banking App

2. Activate your card by using an NBS ATM or by making an “in-person” purchase using your PIN

3. Authenticate online transactions with codes received via mobile text message

What do existing cardholders need to do?

  • Make sure you are registered for and can access Internet Banking. This will make selecting a PIN for your card a fast and straightforward process.
  • Make sure the address and mobile phone number we have for you is correct. This will ensure you receive your card and will allow us to send you the one-time passcode for selected online purchases to your mobile device.

Misplaced, lost, stolen or damaged cards

If you misplace your new card, you can temporarily block it via Internet Banking or the NBS Mobile Banking App.  

Please contact us immediately if your card is lost, stolen or damaged on 0800 101 700. If you are overseas call 64 3 548 9928 (collect). 

How to apply for an NBS Debit Mastercard if you don’t already have one?

If you’re already an NBS client, please call us on 0800 101 700 and we can arrange to assign a card to any of your existing transactional accounts.

If you're not a client of NBS but would like to set up a transactional account with an NBS Debit Mastercard, call us to arrange a time to come in and see us.

Safety tips

  • Keep your NBS Debit Mastercard in a safe place.
  • Choose a safe PIN, do not share your PIN.
  • Use different PINs for different cards.
  • Never let anyone else use your card.
  • If you lose your NBS Debit Mastercard temporarily block your card via Internet Banking or the NBS Mobile Banking App and contact us immediately.
  • Check your bank transactions regularly to make sure they match the transactions you have made.
  • Destroy any old documents or receipts that display your card number.
  • Remember NBS will never ask you by email for your secure banking information.
  • Never email your NBS Debit Mastercard details or share them with someone you don't know over the phone.

International Transaction Fees
Offshore Service Margin (of the $NZ value of the transaction) 2.25%
EFTPOS Transaction (including contactless, online and MOTO) $0.50
ATM Transaction $6.00
ATM Enquiry $1.50

Please note: International ATMs may apply a surcharge; this should be drawn to your attention before you proceed with your transaction. This surcharge will be added to your withdrawal, converted to NZ dollars (if required) and debited against your account.
Some merchants may apply a charge for using contactless or for internet transactions; it is the merchants responsibility to notify you of any additional charges at the time of sale. These are usually added to the purchase price.
