NBS is continuing to invest in Mid Canterbury through the growth of its Ashburton team, including the appointment of experienced banker Kelvin Small as Commercial Manager.
The team's growth forms part of a broader investment in the region, with recruitment underway for an additional personal banker to support growing demand. With more than 30 years of banking experience, Kelvin brings extensive expertise working alongside business, commercial and corporate clients across Canterbury.
Prior to joining NBS, Kelvin held a range of roles with National Bank, ANZ and Westpac, supporting businesses across Ashburton, Christchurch and Auckland.
Kelvin says the opportunity to work for an organisation focused on relationships and local decision-making was a key factor in joining NBS.
"I've spent most of my banking career working alongside Mid Canterbury businesses and families. Being part of an organisation that genuinely values local relationships and local communities felt like a natural fit."
As Commercial Manager, Kelvin's focus is helping businesses access banking solutions that support growth and long-term success.
"Every business is different. I enjoy taking the time to understand what's important to clients and helping find solutions that support their goals and ambitions."
Kelvin is part of NBS' growing commercial banking team, bringing together specialist expertise, local knowledge and a shared commitment to helping businesses succeed.
By strengthening this capability from the top of the South Island through to Mid Canterbury, NBS is better placed to support local businesses, contribute to thriving regional economies and make an even greater difference in the communities we are proud to be part of.
Outside work, Kelvin enjoys spending time with family and making the most of New Zealand's outdoors through hiking, skiing, mountain biking and water sports.
He has also been actively involved in the Mid Canterbury community over many years, including serving as a Mid Canterbury rugby referee, Chair of the Tinwald Primary School Board of Trustees and supporting Coast to Coast race operations since 2021.
Ashburton Branch Manager David Jones says the wider team's growth reflects increasing demand across the region.
"We're seeing strong activity across Mid Canterbury and we're excited to be growing our team to support local people and businesses. Kelvin brings significant experience and shares our commitment to building long-term relationships with our clients."
Together with the wider Ashburton team, Kelvin's appointment reflects NBS' ongoing commitment to growing alongside the region and supporting the future success of Mid Canterbury.
