Written by NBS community news | Oct 6, 2026, 3:52:18 AM

The votes are in and Nelson Tasman Hospice has received a surprise $1,000 donation, thanks to strong support from the Nelson Tasman community. The donation was part of an NBS initiative inviting locals to nominate clubs, schools, sporting groups and not-for-profit organisations making a positive difference. Thanks to strong support, Nelson Tasman Hospice was selected as the recipient in the Nelson Tasman region.

"When a client chooses to bank with NBS, they’re truly choosing to support local. The more clients who choose NBS the more we can give back to the communities we call home", says Chief Client Officer at NBS, Linda Sullivan

Linda shared the initiative that invited the community to ‘join us, join something bigger’ was a great opportunity to recognise organisations that provide invaluable support to local people every day. "Nelson Tasman Hospice plays an important role in our community, supporting individuals and families through some of life's most challenging times, we were naturally pleased to see so many people take the time to nominate them" she said.

For Nelson Tasman Hospice, this donation is another example of the strong community backing that helps sustain its services throughout the region.

“Our services are free of charge but it does come with a cost to provide them”, shares Ana Fierek, Marketing and Engagement Manager, Nelson Tasman Hospice.

“We need to raise $12,300 each day to cover our shortfall. We’re so grateful for those who nominated us and to NBS for the opportunity to be involved. We spread the word across our social media pages and it was a special feeling to see our followers sharing and commenting that they’d put their vote in for us. Every bit truly helps.”

Investing in stronger communities

As a mutual organisation, NBS reinvests profits back into the communities it serves. Each year, NBS supports hundreds of community groups, schools, clubs and charitable organisations across the top of the South, West Coast and Mid Canterbury where it operates.

This initiative was created to celebrate the organisations that strengthen local communities and give people an opportunity to recognise the groups they value most.

Over the past decade, NBS has contributed more than $8 million in community funding, helping organisations deliver services, create opportunities and build stronger connections across the regions it serves.

Congratulations to Nelson Tasman Hospice and thank you to everyone who took the time to submit a nomination.
